Pierce finishes sixth in Scott Sexton Memorial
With Friday night’s opener at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) rained out, Mack McCarter opened his Memorial Day weekend on Saturday afternoon at Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) for the American Crate All-Star Series-sanctioned Mayhem in the Mountains. With a runner-up finish in his heat race pinning him 12th on the starting grid for the $3,000-to-win A-Main, Mack passed seven cars in the 40-lapper to register a fifth-place finish. He trailed Matt Henderson, Dillon Brown, Jake Teague, and Carson Ferguson to the checkers.
On Sunday afternoon at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) for the United Championship Racing Alliance (UCRA) sanctioned contest, McCarter secured his spot into the $3,001-to-win with a heat race win. After leading the first 13 circuits, Mack surrender the top spot to Aaron Guinn on lap 14. He went on to finish 14th in the 40-lapper. (Jason Nunn photo)
Monday night saw Pierce make his first start of the weekend at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) for the ninth annual Scott Sexton Memorial. In a field of 40 Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals entries, McCarter came in second in his heat behind Jimmy Owens, which positioned him seventh on the starting grid for the $10,052-to-win series finale. Improving one spot in the 52-lap affair, Pierce scored a sixth-place finish.
