Despite cold temperatures, a stout field of forty-six Super Late Models converged on the 3/8 mile oval to do battle in front of an immense crowd. Pierce started his outing by timing in fourth fastest in Group A during qualifications, earning him the pole position for his heat race. He charged to a convincing heat race victory to lock into the sixth starting spot for the 40 lap, $4,000-to-win finale.
When the race went green, McCarter quickly made his way into the top five, inheriting the third position on lap thirteen when Cory Hedgecock retired with a flat right rear tire. Pierce held the third position for much of the event until contact from a lapped car sent him spinning into the infield off turn four. Series rules forced McCarter to restart at the tail of the lead-lap cars with six laps remaining. He went on to charge back in the closing laps to a solid fourth place finish behind race winner, Donald McIntosh, Walker Arthur and Stephen Breeding. Jeremy Hines rounded out the top five finishers.
